Operating an air conditioner system
is a completely different ball game. Many home owners buy expensive, state of
the art air conditioners for the first time but are not able to enjoy these
systems to the maximum potential because they do not understand the settings.
The different symbols can be tricky specially if you are a first time user or
if you are new to any particular brand.
Here are few short explanations of
the different symbols that are common on most new age air conditioners. The
turn on/off button: This is usually at the top and you can turn the machine on
or off using this button. The + and – sign buttons have to be there on any air
conditioner. They are used to control the ambient temperature of the room.
While the + button will increase the room’s temperature and the – will make the
room cooler. The different snow flake symbol will help you determine the
different modes.
These are present on the newer models
and you can use these buttons to get warm air during winter months. The fan on
or off symbol controls the ventilation inside your room. You can use it to
operate only the fan without using the air conditioner. This is a good way to
save energy if you do not want too much cooling. The internal fan symbols will
help you control the rate with which the air conditioner cools the room. There
are other symbols like turbo mode and air swing symbols which help you control
other functions of the air conditioner.
Advanced
settings on air conditioners
The internal fan symbols can be
tricky to operate if you do not know their functions. They are usually in the
form of a bar and signify the speed of the internal fan and how much faster it
can go. The more bars you press the higher the speed of the fan. However, many
users do not understand its functionality. They are used to cool a room faster.
For instance if you enter a room during summer and you want it to cool fast
then you will have to set the internal fan speed at much higher than normal.
Another symbol that confuses many
first time users is the auto function. This is common in modern air
conditioners. By pressing these buttons you will be able to keep the air
conditioner work by itself and use its own intelligence on what temperature it
will operate on. This is very useful if you want to maintain an ambient
temperature for your room while you go to sleep or leave your pets inside for
some time. This function will work equally well for both heating and cooling of
the room. The auto function is represented by two arrows in a circle symbol.
The air swing symbols help you gain
more control on how the air conditioner operates and which way the cold air
gets blown. There are usually two directions in which the swing works in modern
air conditioners. You can control the vertical and horizontal air swing by
using these symbols. The direction of airflow is important when you are trying
to cool a room especially if it is a big room. You can control where the air is
being blowing in the vertical direction by using the vertical swing direction.
You can control the horizontal flow’s direction by using the horizontal swing
symbols. By using these two symbols you will able to pin point the exact
position on which you can blow the air.
Cool faster
with turbo mode
Sometimes during hot summer days when
you enter a room from outside, the air conditioning feel inadequate. If the
initial cooling of the air conditioner is not enough you can then switch it to
turbo mode. It is very effective for a faster cooling. Usually the turbo symbol
is available on higher range models. Sometimes the humidity can play spoilsport
and make you uncomfortable inside the room no matter how low the temperature
is. This is where you can use the dry mode symbol. It is an effective way to
reduce the humidity inside the room. You can find the dry mode button marked
with symbols of water drops or dry mode written on it. It can be very effective
to remove any unwanted moisture that may be present inside the room. Like the
turbo mode this is available on more premium models. Some models also come with
economy models. When you select this mode you can set the temperature to a
slight higher side but then the power consumption goes down significantly.
If you are planning to run the air
conditioner for a very long time then this is a good idea to switch to economic
mode. This will help you save a lot on your electricity bills. Some modern air
conditioners also come with presence detectors. You can use this symbol to make
the air conditioner switch off or run idle when everyone leaves the room. But
this is a special feature that is not available on most common air
conditioners.
